Bogota awake

By coincidence this week was one of the biggest events of the city during the year; a few years ago a mayor called Enrique Penalosa decide to build bycicle paths all over the city in order to motivate the people to stop using their cars after, also every sunday for the las 20 years(aprox) the main arteries of the city are closed for the cars and adpted for pedestrians, bycicles etc. Due to the public acceptance the government decided to do this one night of the year during a weekday, last night was "la ciclovia nocturna" which means "over night bycicle path" so the stores close late at night and people decide to walk around the city and enjoy the commerce and the christmas lights. It is said that last night 3 million people went out to walk. Like I said before this is once a year evnt that can be seen as an anual cycle, do you guys think that we can categorize cycles by time?

a really nice event. but I think u guys should do it more often. but then maybe it becomes too normal. I remember u talking about this once in london, probably during our coffee session...
about how to categorize cycles. I am not sure about using time to group them. off course its rhythm can be characteristic but one year, for ur example, is already a cycle it self. time is a measuring tool to divide a certain amount into units that are common and normed.
I tried to categorize cycles in my report into natural, activity and material. more connected to its reference. but maybe we can think of combining the two things. classification by reference and by rhythm.
I also think there are cycles where we do not have exact time intervals. such can be basic human needs like eating or sleeping. we do know that we have to eat but again but there is no exact time that we could say we have to eat every six hours.
activity cycles like the rush hour are often related to broader happenings where the reference is related to society or culture, if we take the general working hours in an area. in switzerland generally work starts between seven and eight - the morning rush-hour (if this can be called rush-hour) is between six and eight, where as in london the morning rush-hour is between eight and ten...
some flexible categories would be needed, but would be, as J mentioned, important to communicate and compare.
