for the beginning in a new city, I will start with a track plot. such a GPS is really a great tool. to me it is like a diary. along the tracks I can remember what I've seen during the last few days. as we are new here everything is more exiting. each trip is some kind of exploring tour. even the short walk to the next sainsbury's is quite a exiting tour. I am wondering how long it will take until we feel settled.
so far we are exploring the city as pedestrians. it is really uncomfortable to walk. pedestrian circulation is clearly secondary here. to cross the street one has to wait on two different red lights as the second one does not connect to the first one. as if one that crosses the first lane of the street but does not want to cross the second line...
the second thing to name with pedestrian circulation is the strange feeling one gets in numerous situations. a strange feeling of being trapped comes up. pedestrians usually have to pass subways underneath the street. if its not a subway there a some overhead pass-ways, but the feeling here is the same. there is just no option, this is probably what I don't like.
